Each week in the Naturalist Center, we take elementary school-aged children on Science Story Adventures. We look at a different theme connected with the natural world and the exhibits in the Academy, and explore it through stories, activities and crafts.
Now you can continue your adventure at home with this online handout. It includes the planned learning outcomes of the Science Story Adventure, which are usually drawn from the Science Content Standards for California Public Schools. Can’t remember the title of the books we read or how to do that craft? It’s on the sheet. We’ve also included a list of resources – books, DVDs or websites – for further exploration.

Saturday-Sunday, April 28-29, 10:00 am-5:00 pm
Join us for a weekend filled with out-of-this-world activities! On Saturday at 11:00 am and 2:00 pm, explore our solar system’s red planet with Morrison Planetarium presenter Jeff Schwartz. Zoom over martian mountains and craters and uncover places where life might exist! Take a journey through space with Science Story Adventures for ages 4-8 on Sunday at 2:30 pm in the classroom next door to the Naturalist Center.
Free event with paid admission.

Wednesday, April 25, 11:00 am-4:00 pm
Make a craft and discover more about African penguins. Don’t forget to watch the Academy’s penguin feedings at 10:30 am and 3:00 pm in African Hall.

Celebrate Earth Day this weekend (April 21-22) at the Academy’s Naturalist Center (located on Level 3). Play Trash Timeline and discover how long it takes for different kinds of garbage to break down. Peruse our book and specimen display on sustainability. Make beautiful recycled envelopes from magazines on Friday and Saturday. Explore the world of recycling in Science Story Adventures (for ages 4-8) on Sunday, 2:30 pm, in the Classroom, next door to the Naturalist Center. And don’t forget to check out the other fun activities going on as part of the Academy’s Earth Day Celebration.
