Worldviews Network

The Worldviews Network is a collaboration of planetariums and science centers across the United States who are using immersive visualization technology and live events to help communities better understand how global environmental change affects their lives.

Worldviews Network partners are hosting quarterly events designed to help participants better understand the interconnections between the resilience of social and ecological systems. Each engagement consists of a live immersive presentation of scientific visualizations followed by a facilitated community conversation. This three–year environmental literacy project is funded by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

A Global Water Story

Plunge into global and regional water issues in this 8 minute Google Earth based film. Travel to Himalayas and the Middle East and back to the arid American Southwest to explore freshwater systems in depth and the innovative solutions people have developed to make more out of less. Funded by Google Earth Outreach, this film is a co-production of the California Academy of Sciences, the Denver Museum of Nature & Science, and Visuamundo.

Valley Oaks: An Ecological Journey Through Time

On December 8, 2011, audiences inside the Morrison Planetarium were taken on an immersive tour from the canopy to the cosmos, exploring the history and ecology of one of California's most iconic and threatened tree species, the Valley Oak. Academy scientists, indigenous partners, and historical ecologists from the San Francisco Estuary Institute revealed how Valley Oaks and humans are intertwined in a relationship of disturbance and adaptation, with implications for the health and well-being of Bay Area communities.
