Spring to Life
March 14, 2011

Each spring, nature explodes with new life as the chill of winter recedes. In Spring to Life, a new exhibit on view now through May 1, the Academy is highlighting renewal in many forms. Larger-than-life blades of grass, a giant fabric egg, and a bright green tunnel dubbed “Egg Alley” have transformed the piazza into a colorful venue for displays and programs about sprouting, blossoming, nesting, and emergence by which new life enters the world.
Learn about the chicken’s life cycle at an incubator and hatchery for live chicks. Enjoy daily programs set against a “living wall”—an eye-catching vertical garden of live plants. And for several weeks starting March 26, watch a recycled art installation take shape as artist Michael Bartalos transforms your cereal boxes and shoe boxes into a large tree populated by cardboard animals.
