Golden Gate Park Field Guide
Golden Gate Park? We have an app for that.

The Golden Gate Park Field Guide is the go-to mobile guide for navigating San Francisco’s thousand-acre urban oasis. The app highlights the park’s common wildlife, popular attractions, and hidden gems. It also invites users to actively engage with the park and to record and share their experiences. Key features of the app are outlined below.

Field Guide

Find out more about the birds, mammals, insects, plants, reptiles and amphibians that make Golden Gate Park their home. View by scientific name or common name. Learn from Academy scientists, mark your favorites and suggest new additions to the guide.

Park Map

This highly interactive and customizable map highlights key park features and attractions. It also displays, in real-time, recent wildlife sightings reported by other park visitors. Find out what’s nearby!

Adventures are self-guided itineraries and activities that introduce users to the park’s natural highlights, plant and animal species and cultural attractions. There are tours of varying lengths organized by mode of travel — foot, bike or car. Scavenger hunts introduce themes of nature.

Contribute to the mapping of the park’s biodiversity. When you spot an animal or stumble upon a plant, take a photo, annotate it, and share your sighting with other park goers and nature lovers.
