Thank you for the thoughtful comment Maggie. I don't think that scientists should tell anyone what to believe (there we go again!), but I will tell you who I think you should trust in this argument: scientists. We can't yet say that "superstorm" Sandy was a result of global warming, and we might never be able to say one way or another, but the nature of the storm is consistent with what we understand of global warming. We are certain of global warming, and the impacts so far, sea level rise being the most important one in this situation. And I'll give you another reason why you should trust us. We could all have jumped onto Governor Cuomo's bandwagon, and said, "See, we were right!" But we have not, because we place supportable science before everything else. Once again, I will applaud the governor for his courageous stand, and support him for thinking daringly, but I can't take the science further than I understand it.

I understand scientists, being scientists, are unwilling to say x caused y without clear concise evidence. The problem is, the institutions who are trying to instill doubt have no problem saying x did not cause y. The American people don't know what to believe. It's sad really, because the majority of people living in first world countries elsewhere in the world accept climate change, and are laughing at the fact that climate deniers have such a stronghold here.
