Join the vibrant and growing community of 3rd – 5th grade Bay Area teachers in the Teacher Institute on Science and Sustainability (TISS).

Applications for TISS Cohort 7 (2015-2017) are due March 15, 2015

TISS is a transformative two-year professional development program that provides teachers with best practices in science pedagogy, adult-level content knowledge, and school site support to enhance teachers’ and students’ understanding of topics ranging from energy to food systems to water issues.

Priority in the selection process is given to teams of 3-4 teachers applying from schools located within 20 miles of California Academy of Sciences.

The program includes in-depth workshops at the Academy, individual and team coaching visits at school sites, and stimulating trips to scientific institutions, outdoor spaces, and more. Quality science teaching practices, reflective pedagogy, and teacher collaboration guide our efforts. In each year of the program, teachers participate in a 2-week summer session and over 25 hours of school-year professional development. As the state moves toward the implementation of the Next Generation Science Standards in K-12 classrooms, TISS is excited to continue to find ways to support teachers in enhancing their science teaching practices.

TISS teachers receive a $2000 annual stipend, school site coaching by Academy educators, complimentary Academy membership, among other benefits.

Cohort 7 Summer Session runs July 20-31. Visit the TISS page for more information.
