A few years ago we acquired an antique book printed in London, 1669 - Cosmographie by Peter Heylyn - and we were amazed to find that it had the bookplate of Alvin & Ethel Seale - 1936 - South Sea Library, with the Seale Coat of Arms & Motto - "Loyal En Tout", and an embossed wolf's head emerging from a crown. Since then we've made some research into this famous fish scientist, as well as travelling to Monterey & San Francisco a couple of times. Alvin Seale was clearly a truly great man, and we were sorry to read of the tragic death of his 1st wife, Ethel, in San Francisco, 1936.

It was my pleasure, as a young person, to know Alvin Seale and his wife, Jessie. Mr. and Mrs. Seale had no children so they turned their attention to young people of the community of Corralitos, CA. where they made their home. Mr. Seale decided that archery would be a great thing to teach these rural kids. He and Mrs. Seale began having these boys and girls in their home once a week during the school term. The boys belonged to the Saxon Pope Club and the girls were members of the Diana Club. Each group had 10 members. At 8th grade graduation you became too old for membership.
This association with Mr. and Mrs. Seale lead to life long friendships with the couple. They followed each of their many young friends through school and beyond. It was the best thing that happened to me in my youth and throughout my adulthood. They were very special people.
