Scientist's Scoop: What lies 400 feet below the ocean’s surface?
On March 23, 2017, Academy scientist Bart Shepherd gave us the scoop on what it is like to explore 400 feet below the ocean's surface. What do you expect he found there?
We know less about the mysterious part of the ocean known as the twilight zone than we do about the surface of the moon. Academy scientists like Bart Shepherd are helping to change that by exploring this new frontier.
In this 1-hour live discussion, we explored the mysterious twilight zone with Bart. Students had the opportunity to listen in on a conversation in the twilight zone and try to interpret what our scientists were saying as they dove beneath the surface. Also, Bart introduced us to the many new and rare species he and his team found in the twilight zone.
This program was interactive in nature! Students had the opportunity to ask Bart about their curiosities regarding what it is like to study in the twilight zone, the type of skills needed, and the different species discovered there.
