Aaron Axelsen

Aaron Axelsen provides music for this week’s NightLife. Aaron is the music director for Bay Area radio station Live 105, and hosts two radio shows where he showcases up-and-coming artists: Subsonic (Saturdays from 12-3am), and Soundcheck (Sundays from 7-10pm). He is also the co-founder of the long running SF club night Popscene, where artists like The Killers, Amy Winehouse, Muse, Bloc Party and the Arctic Monkeys all played their first local shows.

OVO

NightLife will be joined by some of the folks from OVO, the new program by Cirque du Soleil, inspired by the form and movement of insects.  They will bring stilt-walkers, a movie on the making of OVO, and more.

In keeping with the theme of the night, we will have live insect specimens on display in African Hall from the Insect Discovery Lab.

Insect Discovery Lab

The Insect Discovery Lab seeks to instill a sense of awareness, wonder and appreciation of insects and nature and its importance to us. It is the leading education outreach facility in the San Francisco Bay Area for the conservation of invertebrates, and has been highlighted on Evening Magazine, Bay TV, and Bay Area Backroads.

In keeping with the theme of the night, they will have live insect specimens on display in African Hall.

Planetarium

Fragile Planet
6:30 pm, 7:30 pm and 8:30 pm

Seating for planetarium shows is limited.  Passes will be distributed the night of the event on a first-come, first-served basis at the Planetarium.  Arrive early for the best chance of getting a seat.

NightLife VIP Tour

Want an entirely different NightLife experience? Join us on our NightLife VIP Tour. Tickets include admission to NightLife, a one-hour behind-the-scenes tour with a private viewing of the Academy's renowned gem and mineral collection and interaction with Academy researchers in the lab, express entry into the building, an open bar in a reserved cocktail area prior to the tour, VIP access to the Rainforest, and a reserved pass for the 8:30 Planetarium show.
