Check out the Opening Weekend lineup below!

Opening Ceremony

Saturday, September 27th, 8:30 am

To kick things off, Executive Director Greg Farrington, Board Chair Bill Patterson, Architect Renzo Piano, Mayor Gavin Newsom, and other luminaries will commemorate the completion of the new Academy with an opening ceremony.

The event will include a Native American blessing and a butterfly release, symbolizing the Academy's transformation from old to new.

A Green Happening

At every level, the weekend-long festivities will celebrate the Academy's mission to explore, explain, and protect the natural world.

Among other measures, the Academy intends to eliminate plastic water bottles from the event, providing visitors with free water and biodegradable cups at drinking stations throughout the concourse.

Additionally, the booths requiring generator power will use biodiesel fuel rather than traditional fuels.
