Polar Bear

A Polar bear approaches whale bones from the previous year’s hunt. Inupiat people of Kaktovik hunt Bowhead whale during autumn. The whale remains are left on the ice to be consumed by polar and grizzly bears, Arctic foxes and gulls. The unlikely elements of late-evening light, a perfectly calm Arctic coast, and a mirage in the far distance combined to create this image.
