I have had the great privilege of seeing wild Mantellas in Madagascar, and tried, in vain, to breed the critically endangered Golden Mantella (M. Aurantiaca)with captive bred stock, with no result. Congrats on the Academy's success!

Having spent a glorious 2 years as a preteen in the Canal Zone - - building forts in the jungles around Gatun Lake, hunting for bleeding teeth shells, and playing football in the mud with the boys - - I was thrilled to read about the thriving baby golden mantellas. We still have a warped, mildewed, signed edition of Anico Surany's storybook, THE GOLDEN FROG, published by GP Putnam's Sons in 1963.

Thanks for your report!
