California Academy of Sciences Holds San Francisco (October 15, 2001) - The California Academy of Sciences is holding a children's photography contest. Prizes will be awarded and winning photographs will be exhibited at the Academy. Categories: "California Wild": anything wild in California - such as plants, flowers, animals or landscapes. Winners will be selected from two age groups: 6-12 and 13-18. "Here at the Academy": anything inside the Academy including children playing in the courtyard*, the alligators in the swamp or the animals in African Hall. Winners in this category will be selected from one age group: 6-18. Prizes: First prize: $100 vouchers for Academy classes and camps. How to Enter: Participants are welcome to enter both categories, but are limited to no more than six photos per person. Entries must be either color prints, black and white prints, color slides or transparencies. Prints should be at least 5" x 7", but no larger than 11" x 14". An official entry form must accompany all entries. Entry form, rules and other details are available on our Web site: www.calacademy.org/photocompetition. Additional entry forms may be obtained by calling (415) 750-7422. There is no entry fee, but anyone wanting their photos returned should include a self-addressed stamped envelope. All winning photographs become the property of the California Academy of Sciences. Deadline January 10, 2002 *If a photo includes recognizable faces of people, it will be disqualified unless you are able to provide their names and addresses so we can ask for their permission to use it. Employees of the California Academy of Sciences and their immediate family members are not eligible to enter. Earth, Ocean, Space. All in one place! The California Academy
of Sciences, a nonprofit educational and research institution, includes
Steinhart Aquarium, Morrison Planetarium and the Natural History Museum
all under one roof in Golden Gate Park. The Academy is open 365 days from
10 am to 5 pm (9 am to 6 pm Memorial Day through Labor Day). Admission
is $8.50 for adults; $5.50 for youths 12-17, students with proper identification
and seniors 65 and over; $2 for children 4-11; and free for ages 3 and
under and Academy members. Adult visitors who come by public transit or
bicycle receive a $2.50 discount off adult admission. Children under 12
arriving by public transit or bicycle will be admitted free of charge.
Public transit routes serving Golden Gate Park are as follows: the #44
O'Shaughnessy, the #5 Fulton, the #71 Haight-Noriega, #21 Hayes and the
N-Judah. The first Wednesday of each month is free to all, and the Academy
