The Seventeenth Annual Academy Ball: Earth, Ocean, Space

SAN FRANCISCO (May 2, 2002) -- What are macaws and Chinese Lion Dancers
celebrating at the California Academy of Sciences? Earth, Ocean, Space,
the seventeenth annual Academy Ball Friday, May 17, 2002.
The festivities begin at 6:30 pm when Chinese Lion and Dragon Dancers,
Captain Byrde and his marvelous macaws, the Bogo Quartet, a 12-piece string
ensemble, and Japanese Koto amuse and delight guests. In addition, attendees
may procure "spaced out" hairdos and henna tattoos while enjoying
entertainment by The Certificates.
Dinner will be served at 8 pm. A sumptuous dessert buffet and after-dinner
cordials will follow in the Academy courtyard. Impazador Dali's whimsical
portraiture, and Patrick Martin Magic's entertainment will enchant guests
with slight of hand and trick of the eye antics. The evening will close
with dancing to the Rich Martini Orchestra.
Dodge & Cox is the lead corporate sponsor. Tom Klein is the corporate
chair.
Christine Russell and Mark Schlesinger are dinner chairs.
Tables of ten are available at $10,000, $7,000 and $5,000. Individual
tickets are also available for $300, $350, $500, $750 and $1,000 per person.
Proceeds will benefit education and research.
