A MASKED BALL AT CITY HALL
The California Academy of Sciences Throws Nineteenth Annual Ball

(San Francisco) March 29, 2004 -- On Friday, May 14, the California Academy
of Sciences will host the 19th Annual Academy Ball, "Disguise Your
Eyes: A Masked Ball at City Hall," from 6:30 pm - midnight. In the
past, the Academy has held the ball at its museum in Golden Gate Park.
However, since the Academy is in a smaller building at 875 Howard Street,
while the Golden Gate Park museum is being rebuilt, San Francisco's City
Hall will serve as the new venue.
The magnificent Rotunda and the North and South Light Courts at City Hall
will be dressed in party finery for cocktails, champagne, hors d'oeuvres,
oysters by Swan Oyster Depot, and seated dinner by Dan McCall. Dancing
will follow to the sounds of the Dick Bright Orchestra. Harlequins, jesters,
whimsical costumed characters, and magicians will provide entertainment
throughout the evening. Dinner Committee Chairs are Ken and Kristen Baber.
Tickets for this year's event begin at $400 per person. Tables of 10 are
available at $10,000, $7,500 and $5,000. Individuals, Tables and Sponsors
who donate $450 and above will be acknowledged in the dinner program.

The California Academy of Sciences, including
Steinhart Aquarium and the Natural History Museum, will open to the public
May 1, at 875 Howard Street. Admission to the Academy at 875 Howard Street
is: $7 for adults, $4.50 for youth ages 12 to 17, Seniors ages 65+ and
students with valid ID, $2 for children ages four to 11 and children ages
three and younger will be admitted free of charge. Hours are 10 a.m. to

The California Academy of Sciences, the fourth largest
natural history museum in the United States, is home to Steinhart Aquarium,
Morrison Planetarium and the Natural History Museum. The Academy is beginning
an extensive rebuilding project in Golden Gate Park. Pritzker prize-winning
architect Renzo Piano is designing the new Academy, which is expected
to open in 2008.
