BOO! from the Deep Blue

SAN FRANCISCO (August 28, 2007) – Come face-to-face with live sharks, feast next to a school of piranhas, hunt in the dark with flashlight fish, and touch hair-raising scientific specimens at the California Academy of Sciences' 16th Annual Halloween Party, BOO! from the Deep Blue. There's no better place for kids to show off their costumes and enjoy some devilishly good tricks and treats on Friday, October 26.
This year's sea theme is inspired by preparations for the new Steinhart Aquarium that is currently under construction in Golden Gate Park. Besides traditionally creepy creatures like tarantulas and snakes, partygoers can view the aquarium's new sharks and rays, hundreds of colorful reef fish, and a roomful of actively growing corals. Delicious food and creative entertainment will delight kids of all ages.
This event will be the final Halloween party held at the Academy's temporary facility, located downtown at 875 Howard Street. Its future haunt will be a spectacular new building in Golden Gate Park. Designed by prize-winning architect Renzo Piano, the new Academy is slated to open in October 2008.
BOO! from the Deep Blue will take place on October 26, 2007 from 6:30 - 8:30 pm. Tickets cost $350 per family, which includes two adults and two children. Alternately, individual tickets can be purchased for $100 per adult and $75 per child. Benefactor levels are available at $2,500, $1,000, and $500. Reservations are required by Friday, October 19. The California Academy of Sciences, including Steinhart Aquarium and the Natural History Museum, is open to the public at 875 Howard Street. Admission to the Academy at 875 Howard Street is: $10 for adults; $6.50 for youth ages 12 to 17, seniors ages 65+, and students with valid ID; $2 for children ages four to 11; and free for children ages three and younger. The California Academy of Sciences, the fourth largest natural history museum in the United States, is home to Steinhart Aquarium, Morrison Planetarium, and the Natural History Museum. The Academy is in the midst of an extensive rebuilding project in Golden Gate Park. Pritzker prize-winning architect Renzo Piano is designing the new Academy, which is expected to open in October 2008.
