Michael,

It was great getting to know you, taking pictures and walking around looking for dead animals together at Lake Hoare camp. The scenery there was better than any other camp to which I have been!

I want to congratulate you on the interesting and informative talk you gave tonight. The tidbits about Shackleton's team printing Aurora Australis were helpful to understand what trials they went through to print that book. I am glad I got to hear your talk. Thank you for the post cards.

Good question Michael. Yes, Canada Glacier does calve and fracture into pieces called 'berries' that fall to its base. These rather large chunks are often collected to melt down for water supply, as there are no running faucets in camp. -- mb

Awesome, Michael! Was this trip something you applied for a grant to do? This experience, as they say in the Mastercard commercials: "Priceless."

those glaciers really are something, aren't they? i got the chance to go to glacier bay (alaska) last year and the glaciers were so, so beautiful. the deep blue in the crevasses were unlike any blue i'd ever seen.

the one you camped next to seems pretty solid, michael: any chance of it "calving" and breaking off a bit, or was it mostly still?

thanks for all the updates! ~m
