Guests may Waltz, Foxtrot and Samba through 150 years of Science
When they Dance Through Time at the
Academy's Annual Ball

SAN FRANCISCO (April 16, 2003) - As time marches forward, the California Academy of Sciences will celebrate 150th anniversary at the Annual Ball, Dancing through Time. Guests will be greeted with the lilting sounds of violins, dazzling costumed characters and Captain Byrd with his macaws. To mark the occasion, joint leadership will be provided by ball dinner chairs from the past 17 years. In addition, guests may notice display jewelry, worn by selected guests, courtesy of Shreve and Co.

Boca do Rio will capture the spirit and sounds of Brazil while guests enjoy cocktails, champagne and hors d'oeuvres served by Dan McCall and the Swan Oyster Depot. A seated dinner by McCall and Associates will be served in African Hall, Steinhart Aquarium and Wild California Hall, followed by a dessert buffet. Dinner will be served with Guenoc Wines. The evening will continue with dancing to the Dick Bright Orchestra. Costumed characters and talented actors, including Patrick Martin Magic, Tom Nixon Magic, Madame Fortuna Fischi, Dance Through Time, Captain Byrd, Loree Lee Harper and many more will provide entertainment throughout the evening.

Renzo Piano, the renowned architect for the new Academy (due to open in 2008) will be present at this year's event.

Tickets for this year's event begin at $300 per person. Tables of 10 are available at $10,000, $7,500 and $5,000. Purchasers of tables and purchasers of individual tickets of $350 and above will be acknowledged in the Dinner Program.
