SAN FRANCISCO ( September 15, 2008 ) – Visitors to the California Academy of Sciences will enjoy free admission on the third Wednesday of each month, through a year-long partnership between the Academy and Wachovia. Wachovia Wednesdays will begin on October 15, 2008 , and will be publicized through local calendars and advertisements. “One of Wachovia’s top community priorities is to ensure that vital educational and cultural experiences are accessible to everyone,” said Jim Kimball, Wachovia’s Northern California regional president. “We’re pleased to expand public access to one of the largest and most prestigious natural history museums in the world, and we’re excited to see the Academy’s vision – to sustain and celebrate life in the natural world – brought to life with youth and adults alike.” Wachovia Wednesdays are p art of the Academy's larger strategy to make the museum accessible to all who wish to visit. "Our goal is to spark a curiosity about science and a passion for nature in as many individuals as possible," says Executive Director Greg Farrington. "We are so pleased that Wachovia has sponsored this series of free days, which will open that door to families and individuals who might otherwise be unable to visit." In addition to Wachovia Wednesdays, the Academy welcomes all San Francisco school groups to visit free of charge, and offers additional opportunities for free admission, including a series of Neighborhood Free Days, throughout the year. An estimated twenty percent of the Academy's attendance will be unpaid. |
