Museum to stay open until 6:30 pm on November 27-29,
December 21-23 and 26-30, and January 1-3


SAN FRANCISCO (November 12, 2009) — Visitors to the California Academy of Sciences can enjoy the aquarium, planetarium, rainforest, and other exhibits until 6:30 pm on November 27-29, December 21-23 and 26-30, 2009, and January 1-3, 2010. During the busy holiday season, these extended hours offer more flexibility for local residents and tourists alike, who can visit the Academy during off-peak times for Golden Gate Park. The Academy Store and Café will also stay open to accommodate holiday shoppers and evening diners.

"The holidays are a perfect time to bring out-of-town visitors to the Academy," says Dr. Gregory Farrington, Executive Director of the Academy. "There is something for everyone here, from the free-flying birds and butterflies in our four-story living rainforest, to our Journey to the Stars space show, to our Wii-based game that allows visitors to collect virtual insects in Madagascar."

Regular admission fees apply for the extended holiday hours; Academy members will be admitted free of charge. Tickets can be purchased at the door or in advance online at Last entry into the building is one hour before closing. As always, visitors who take public transportation receive a $3 discount.

Additionally, just in time for the holidays, the Academy now offers gift memberships, as well as gift tickets for general admission and behind-the-scenes tours. Another option is the Academy gift card, which is available in $50, $100, and $200 denominations and can be applied to a variety of on-site purchases: general admission, NightLife, tours, memberships, the Academy Store, Café, and Moss Room restaurant. The Academy's regular hours of operation are 9:30 am - 5:00 pm Monday - Saturday, and 11:00 am - 5:00 pm on Sunday. The Academy is closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas.
