PENGUIN FEEDINGS
Daily at 10:30 am & 3:30 pm

The Academy’s African penguins are always especially animated during meal time. Watch the birds dip and dive in their tank at the end of African Hall as a biologist dons a wet suit and hands out vitamin-stuffed herring and capelin. SWAMP TALK
Daily at 11:00 am, 1:00 pm, 3:00 pm

Join us at the Swamp to learn about some of the Academy’s most popular animals, including American alligators and alligator snapping turtles. You’ll find out what it takes to care for these amazing creatures, which are native to swamps in the southeastern United States. Free with Academy admission. CORAL REEF DIVES

Watch as a diver suits up in SCUBA gear and plunges into the world’s deepest living coral reef exhibit. Outfitted with an underwater microphone, the diver will answer all of your reef-related questions. Free with Academy admission. BUGS! 3D SHOW
Daily, every hour on the hour

A remarkable foray into the fascinating world of insects, this 22-minute feature was filmed on location in the tropical forests of Borneo. Using immersive 3D technology, the film follows the life cycles of Hierodula, the praying mantis, and Papilio, the butterfly. FRAGILE PLANET PLANETARIUM SHOW
Daily, please check upon arrival for the day’s schedule

Leave Planet Earth behind as you fly to the farthest reaches of the Universe in this 25-minute show. Zoom through the roof of the Academy’s building, float up through Earth’s atmosphere, and gain an astronaut’s view of your home—the only planet currently known to support life. Then travel to the Moon, Mars, and even beyond the Milky Way to search for habitats that might support extraterrestrial life. EXPLORE THE LIVING ROOF WITH NATURALISTS

Learn about the Academy’s 2.5-acre living roof and the birds, bees, and other animals that visit its 1.7 million native plants. Meet in the Naturalist Center. LAGOON FEEDING
Every Tuesday and Thursday at 1:30 pm

Join the Academy’s shallow reef residents for lunch at the Mangrove Lagoon. Watch and ask questions as a biologist feeds vitamin-stuffed fish to the sharks and doles out a special diet of chopped clams, shrimp, squid and fish to the rays. Free with Academy admission. NIGHTLIFE
Every Thursday, 6–10 pm

Every Thursday night, the Academy opens its doors from 6-10 pm for NightLife, a chance for adults to explore the museum in a whole new light. Dance to some of San Francisco's most popular DJs, enjoy food and cocktails, and mingle with the like-minded while you explore the Academy’s world-class exhibits and get up close and personal with aquarium critters. Take in some knowledge with your libations – each week features provocative science programming and a few surprises. NightLife is for those age 21 and over; a valid ID is required for entry. TEENS TALK BOOKS
The Carbon Challenge
Saturday, August 1, 11:00 am

This meeting of the Academy’s teen book club will focus on Saci Lloyd’s The Carbon Diaries 2015. The book takes place in the near future, and global warming has created a “Great Storm” that hits London. In response, Great Britain decides to implement carbon rationing—each person is allotted a miniscule amount of carbon use per year. Good-bye air travel and home heating. Join us for a teenage discussion of The Carbon Diaries 2015, which is told through the words of a 16-year-old Londoner. EXPLORE GOLDEN GATE PARK WITH NATURALISTS

Learn about the Academy’s wild neighbors in Golden Gate Park, the fragile ecosystems where they live, and what can you do to help protect them. For ages 7 and older (children 7-12 must be accompanied by a parent). Participants should wear comfortable clothes and sturdy shoes for outdoor activities. Meet at the Business Entrance reception desk near the Swamp. Cost is General Admission plus $3. Space is limited to 30 people. THE LIVING ROOF PROJECT

Become a citizen scientist and help collect data for a long-term monitoring project on the Academy’s living roof. Along the way, learn about the roof’s native plants and animal visitors. For ages 12 and older. Participants should wear clothing for outdoor activities. Meet at the Business Entrance reception desk near the Swamp. Cost is General Admission plus $3. WACHOVIA WEDNESDAY

The Academy is free to the public on the third Wednesday of each month. This program is sponsored by Wachovia. Astrobiology, Planetary Protection, and Hitchhikers in the Solar System
Featuring Margaret Race, SETI Institute

This talk will provide a behind-the-scenes view of how experts from many different disciplines contribute to searches for extraterrestrial life—and also explain how the Outer Space Treaty and planetary protection policies urge “responsible exploration” when visiting other planets.
