Celebrate a SuperNatural Halloween at the California Academy of Sciences
Series of October events offers festive Halloween activities and programs for children and adults

Halloween at the AcademySAN FRANCISCO (August 17, 2010) – Throughout the month of October, the California Academy of Sciences will celebrate the “SuperNatural” with a suite of special programs and events dedicated to exploring the incredible (and sometimes spooky) diversity of creatures and phenomena that populate our natural world. Don your costume and commune with bats and other nocturnal critters, encounter Steinhart Aquarium’s tarantulas, snakes, eels, and otherworldly fish of the deep sea, and much more. From trick-or-treating in the museum to paranormal encounters during NightLife, the Academy’s SuperNatural Halloween celebrations include something fun for everyone. Halloween Events at the Academy

SuperNatural Masquerade – all ages
Friday, October 22, 2010
Main event 7-9pm

Trick-or-treat your way through the Academy at night, among “spook-tacular” animals, creepy crawly specimens, and more. Party-goers will enjoy dozens of trick-or-treat stations and hands-on activities throughout the museum. The fun-filled evening also includes magic shows, a giant pumpkin carving demonstration, special dive program, self-guided scavenger hunt, and other family-friendly activities. Tickets are $50 for adults, $35 for children, available at www.calacademy.org/halloween starting September 1, 2010. Proceeds support the Academy’s education and research programs. Benefactor pre-party 5-7pm
Before the main SuperNatural Masquerade event begins, Benefactor ticketholders will enjoy a suite of extra “green Halloween” activities and festive performances, including a big cats show featuring exotic felines, live music by the Crunchy Frog Band, and face painting. Dinner will be catered by McCall’s, and this year’s Benefactor pre-party is co-chaired by Nora Gibson and Deirdre Pharr. Benefactor family ticket packages start at $500, and will be available at www.calacademy.org/halloween starting August 23, 2010. Proceeds support the Academy’s education and research programs. A SuperNatural NightLife - for adults ages 21+
Thursday, October 28, 6-10pm

Kick off your Halloween in-costume at a SuperNatural edition of the Academy’s weekly NightLife event. Why? Because your fabulous get-up deserves more than one night of glory! In the spirit of Halloween, step into the world of parapsychology with Professor Paranormal, one of the world's leading experts on ghosts and psychic experience. Drop in on one of his tongue-in-cheek psychic shows, check out a giant pumpkin carving demonstration, and groove to ghoulish tunes by DJ Tomas Diablo all night long. NightLife is a weekly event for adults ages 21+, during which guests can dance to some of San Francisco's most popular DJs, enjoy food and cocktails, and mingle with the like-minded while exploring the Academy’s world-class exhibits. SuperNatural Festival – all ages
Saturday – Sunday, October 30-31

Get into the Halloween spirit (and your costume) with some daytime SuperNatural fun at the Academy – home to thousands of slithering, crawling creatures, and millions of pickled and preserved specimens. Meet cockroaches, snakes, and other creepy crawly critters during live animal demonstrations, personal encounters, and special feedings. The family fun continues with Academy costume parades, music and surprise performers, and other interactive Halloween-themed programs. Visitors can also embark on a scavenger hunt to discover creepy, crawly, even “costumed” creatures throughout the Academy, and win a prize.
