SAN FRANCISCO (September 4, 2012) – San Francisco residents will have opportunities to visit and explore the California Academy of Sciences free of charge during the upcoming fall and spring seasons, with the help of a generous grant from Target. Over the past thirteen years, thousands of San Francisco residents have visited the Academy during Neighborhood Free Days. The Academy’s award-winning new building, which will soon pass its four-year anniversary, houses an aquarium, planetarium, rainforest, and natural history museum – all under one living roof. Each neighborhood, defined by zip codes, will have two opportunities to visit the Academy for free over a three-day weekend (Friday, Saturday or Sunday). The fall series of free weekends runs from September 28-October 21, 2012 and the spring series of free weekends runs from April 12-May 5, 2013. Each visiting adult must show a valid photo ID with proof of residency—acceptable items or combinations can be found on www.calacademy.org/visit. Only residents from the zip codes invited on the designated dates will be admitted free of charge. The following schedule outlines the program by zip code neighborhoods:
