This week, learn about the rich history and flavorful future of mezcal at NightLife’s spirit-focused celebration of Cinco de Mayo, co-presented by the MEX I AM festival showcasing the best of Mexico.

The Mezcaleria ​

7:00 - 8:30pm,
Kick off the evening with Consul General of Mexico in San Francisco Dr. Andrés Roemer, followed by talks on the history and future of mezcal from the following experts:

7:00pm, Elisandro Gonzalez will discuss mezcal as a family business and an economic boost to communities of Oaxaca.

7:30pm, Raza Zaid will talk about sustainable mezcal production methods and on balancing conservation with growth.

8:00pm, Max Garrone will discuss the meteoric rize of mezcal and why it's the new favorite the spirits and cocktail world.

8:30pm, Catch mezcal mixology demos from local hotspots La Urbana, Bartlett Hall, Lolo, and more, presented by Mezcalistas.

Spirits Science
(Project Lab)
6:00 - 10:00pm,
At the Project Lab learn about how nature assists in mezcal production with Academy scientists Drs. Lauren Esposito and Jack Dumbacher. UC Santa Cruz post docs, Esteli Jiminez - Soto and Kate Ennis will discuss how climate change is effecting Mexican forests & coffee agriculture and Post docs at UCSF Neuroscience discuss the science of spice.

Get refreshed while tasting samples of Hard Frescos.

Groove to the Latin and tropical rhythms of Deejay Theory and Deejay Baysik.

FOOD & DRINK
A variety of food options are available at NightLife from 6:00-9:30 pm, including The Academy Cafe, The Terrace located in the West Garden, and The Academy Cafe Food Cart located in the front lobby. Enjoy a different fresh seasonal "craft on draft" cocktail at each NightLife bar area designed by our resident mixologist Shane McKnight! All bars accept cash and credit cards.

6:00-10:00 pm, Discover a world of dazzling live animals and shimmering scientific specimens in Color of Life

Please note: Planetarium seating is limited . Admission is available to NightLife guests on a first-come, first-served basis. No passes required. We recommend arriving 20 minutes prior to showtime.
