Everybody loves a good throwback, and this week, NightLife takes a trip to the ‘90s to celebrate the cinema science behind the decade’s most popular films.

Meet the Academy’s Chief of Science Dr. Shannon Bennett as she discusses mosquito-borne infectious diseases and how research has advanced since Outbreak’s 1995 debut. Academy curatorial assistant Sue Pemberton will share seal skulls from the Academy’s marine mammal collection while talking about the ‘90s classic Andre. Then, talk the psychology of '90s trippy classic Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas with UCSF Post-docs. Plus, browse some long lost '90s anthropological artifacts!

 Dust off your favorite scrunchies and flannel shirts and get nostalgic making your very own slap bracelet craft with the help of Julia Jane Moore.

'90s Dance Party

 What’s a true ‘90s tribute without a soundtrack steeped in grunge, pop, and classic hip hop? Groove to the throwback tunes of DJ Jamie Jams of popular ‘90s party Debaser while sipping beverages inspired by popular ‘90s drinks and watching clips from classic '90s shows (think Saved by the Bell and Bill Nye the Science Guy).

MUSEUM EXHIBIT TIMES
6:00-7:45 pm, Osher Rainforest—explore a lush, four-story rainforest that's teeming with life.

6:00-10:00 pm, Color of Life—Discover a world of dazzling live animals and shimmering scientific specimens.

FOOD & DRINK
A variety of food options are available at NightLife from 6:00-9:30 pm, including The Academy Cafe and The Academy Cafe Food Cart located in the front lobby. Enjoy a different fresh seasonal "craft on draft" cocktail at each NightLife bar area designed by our resident mixologist Shane McKnight! All bars accept cash and credit cards.

Please note: Planetarium seating is limited . Admission is available to NightLife guests on a first-come, first-served basis. No passes required. We recommend arriving 20 minutes prior to showtime.
