SAN FRANCISCO (May 24, 2017)—NightLife at the California Academy of Sciences, the museum’s weekly Thursday night party for science-curious adults 21+, has just announced the full lineup for its fourth annual NightLife LIVE summer music series. This year’s headliners include Connan Mockasin, Electric Guest, Ryan Hemsworth, and Melody’s Echo Chamber, along with supporting acts Morgan Delt, The She’s, Qrion, and Mild High Club. In true NightLife style, SF’s top DJs will keep the party going throughout the museum, including rotating sets by King Most, Chulita Vinyl Club, and Popscene DJs Omar and Aaron Axelsen.

This year’s NightLife LIVE events will take place on July 13, August 10, September 14, and October 12, in addition to the Academy’s regular NightLife events held every week. Partnering with Bay Area music promoters Noise Pop, Outside Lands, and Popscene, NightLife LIVE pairs emerging bands and musicians with cutting-edge visual artists in an immersive intersection of science, music, and art. The only museum in the world to combine an aquarium, planetarium, natural history museum, and living rainforest, live performances on an outdoor stage transform the Academy into one of San Francisco’s most unique live music venues in the heart of Golden Gate Park.

Concert goers can keep their senses stimulated between sets, exploring new featured artists and projects each week from the Bay Area’s most buzzworthy art collectives and studios—from immersive light shows and place-based art installations to VR experiences by Dream Logic offering new perspectives on the natural world. Each NightLife LIVE event will also feature hands-on, nature-inspired crafts with Julia Jane Moore and creativity workshops with Paint Pens Collective. Plus, NightLife LIVE will host rotating pop-up shops from local vendors like Amoeba Records and each event will feature a “one-night-only” custom design with screen printing by San Franpsycho.

July 13

Music by Connan Mockasin with Morgan Delt; DJ set by Chulita Vinyl Club

Presented by Noise Pop

NightLife LIVE kicks off on the Academy’s outdoor stage with a night of lo-fi freaky psychedelic pop from New Zealand’s weird and whimsical Connan Mockasin. L.A.’s Morgan Delt opens the evening with a sunny dose of West Coast psychedelia-tinged ‘60s pop. Explore art installations all around and outside the building, including trippy work by Santiago Insignares and a “zome” dome by Zomadic. $15 per person, $12 for Academy members

August 10

Music by Electric Guest with The She’s; DJ set by King Most

Presented by Outside Lands Music Festival

Los Angeles’ Electric Guest brings its upbeat electronic R&B to the NightLife LIVE series, dazzling with “winking falsetto and retro swagger” (Entertainment Weekly). Local openers The She’s, bandmates since elementary school, start the night with their ‘60s pop and surf rock-inspired harmonies and jangly guitars. In the garden, artist Taylor Dean Harrison’s Enunciation, a stainless steel structure that debuted at Burning Man, will help light up the night. $15 per person, $12 for Academy members

September 14

Music by Ryan Hemsworth with Qrion; DJ set by Aaron Axelsen + Omar Perez

Presented by Popscene

This week, chill out with sample-based electronic music from Ryan Hemsworth, whose moody vibes and remixes for artists including Grimes and Frank Ocean made him one of the fastest rising producers in the genre. Begin the night getting swept away by the dreamy ambient electronic music of Japan-based producer Qrion. The two producers have toured together in the past and also collaborated on “Every Square Inch,” named one of FADER’s best tracks of the year in 2014. Throughout the garden, artist Jihoon Choi’s colorful animal sculptures will add a touch of playfulness to the evening. $15 per person, $12 for Academy members

October 12

Presented by Noise Pop

Please stay tuned for performance updates!
