PLEASE NOTE:
We regret that we are not accepting interns at this time.
The Academy has recently reopened in Golden Gate Park after four years in a temporary space in downtown San Francisco.
During the interim, the Traditional Arts Program has been suspsended.
Please check back for updated information.
The Traditional Arts Program offers internships in cultural anthropology to undergraduate and graduate students interested in supplementing their university courses with hands-on ethnographic experience within the Bay Area's diverse communities.

The purpose of the internship is to provide students with practical experience in museum anthropology, and to give them the opportunity to apply academic theories and methodologies to real-life work situations. Students design their own projects, and may choose to develop their fieldwork and documentation skills, pursue in-depth research, or learn about interpreting culture for museum audiences. Topics are varied. (Click here to see past internship projects).

Each intern must obtain written approval from his/her faculty advisor, stating that course credit will be given for the internship.
This mural entitled "Culture Contains the Seed of Resistance which Blossoms into the Flower of Liberation" was painted by Miranda Bergman and O'Brien Thiele on a garage door, Balmy Alley, San Francisco, 1984.
