Floral hair decoration on young hula dancer
Performers from the dance group Halau Ka Ohana Ali'i get ready to participate in the celebration
This project investigated changes in hula traditions over the last 100 years. We documented hula dance traditions, lei-making and other crafts, mele chants and modern music, and musical instruments. We worked with Moana's Hula Halau and conducted interviews with many of the residents of Moloka'i.  This project received partial funding from Mr. Don Levy of San Francisco. Fieldwork conducted 1999-2000.
Researchers: June Anderson and Jenny Michael
