The recent discovery of an ancient flax fiber in a cave in the Republic of Georgia has scientists rethinking when human ancestors started constructing clothing from textiles and not animal skins.

Colorful Dinosaurs

http://www.vimeo.com/6505138

What colors are dinosaurs? We may be closer to figuring this out. Last week, a team of researchers published the first evidence of color in a fossil bird feather. The scientists hope that eventually their study can give some color to feathered dinosaurs.

No one wants to pass up a good dinosaur story, including us. The press has been all over this story, but I think it’s only the beginning– I can’t wait to find out Velociraptor’s true color.

Amino Acids Found in Space

http://www.vimeo.com/6284841

Does life exist elsewhere in the Universe? Perhaps. Last week, scientists announced the discovery of the amino acid, glycine, on the comet Wild 2. Amino acids provide key components for life here on Earth, but this is the first time we have definitive evidence of these molecules occurring in space.

The Human Brain: How We Decide

http://www.vimeo.com/6152486

When Jonah Lehrer was in town to talk about his latest book, How We Decide, we snagged the opportunity to interview him for Science in Action. He took our Visualization Studio through a tour of the brain as we make decisions– whether in the cereal aisle or piloting a plane. Then our artists went to work, creating the brain visuals. It was a great collaboration! What do you think? Let us know.
