An international team is drilling deeply to look for where (and how) large earthquakes occur.

    Does digging deep crevices or holes in the earth's surfaces cause earthquakes? Wouldn't the digging places weaken due to a hole or crevice??? It just seems that if there is a hole somewhere, something would have to eventually collapse together to fill in the vacant space.
