What are kits?
Kits are portable containers filled with all the materials you need to do fun, engaging science activities in your classroom. They include complete lesson plans plus background information on the topic. Hands-on activities, educational games, books, DVDs, and more provide a range of exciting learning opportunities.
Who are they for?
Different kits are designed for different ages. "Junior Kits" are intended for preschoolers and kindergarteners. "Classroom Kits" are for K-12 students, and meet California Science Content Standards for different grades. See the "Classroom Kits" tab to find the specific grade range for each kit.
How can I get one?
Advance reservations are required. Call 415-379-5816 or email
to make a reservation. Once the kit is reserved, you can pick it up at the California Academy of Sciences and return it to us 3 weeks later.
For K-12 Classroom Kits: The lending fee is $30 for three weeks. Teachers are required to attend a workshop to become eligible to borrow the kits. At the workshop, we will show you the materials, demonstrate the activities, and answer any questions you have about the kits.
Workshop Dates
For Junior Kits: The lending fee is $15. Workshop attendance is not required to borrow a Junior Kit. However, an advance reservation is still necessary.
