The institute focuses on energy, green buildings, food, water, and waste and supports teachers to address the California science standards through these sustainability themes.

TISS is an intensive two year professional development opportunity for 3rd – 5th teachers in the Bay Area. The program begins in July and consists of 2 two-week long summer sessions, continuing professional development, and classroom support from Academy educators during the school year.

If that isn’t enough reason to apply, TISS teachers also receive an annual $2000 stipend, a membership to the Academy, a class set of science journals, and more.

Download the application to the Institute, or to learn more, please visit the TISS website or email TISS@calacademy.org.

Will you have Teacher Institutes for High School Biology teachers?

    Hey Lenore,

Our current teacher programs tend to target elementary school teachers, as it is in the younger grades where the opportunity to teach science is lowest. If the Academy acquires the resources to run a biology institute for high school teachers, you’ll be sure to hear about it!

    Thanks for sharing your interest!
