Educating for Sustainability Summer Workshop

The Bay Area Earth Science Institute in Collaboration with Creative Change Educational Solutions presents:

Educating for Sustainability
July 10-12, 2012

Education for sustainability aims to prepare citizens to contribute to the ecological, social, and economic well-being of the community and larger world. In this standards-based workshop, you’ll learn how to help your students explore fundamental questions about community well-being, community interdependence, and their connections to the larger world, build interdisciplinary knowledge about human-environmental interactions, and explore decision-making strategies and action projects focused on increasing individual and community well-being. Topics include energy and water resources, ecological footprint analysis, food systems, and climate change.
Bay Area Earth Science Institute
Who? Teachers of grade 6 and teacher education faculty from San Jose State University and California State University East Bay
When? July 10-12, 2012; 9:00 am – 3:30 pm each day
Where? San José State University
Why? Receive a stipend and qualify for 1 unit of Geology 104 (a $50 unit SJSU fee applies). Receive a year’s subscription to the Creative Change Educational Solutions’ on-line library of lessons, course modules, assessment tools, and curriculum frameworks for teaching sustainability.
