Hi Rachel: we do not currently have any penguins on fertile eggs. Ocio and safara are our first couple to be recommended to breed (since our move to Golden Gate Park). They are currently in our penguin love shack bonding. I expect to see them nesting by the end of 2010, and look forward to learning about their parenting skills as a new, young couple.-Pamela Schaller

Hi Tom: Yes, Brenton and Jahzara have been forming a loose bond. This is typical of young penguins. The stronger, more long lasting bond usually occurs after successful nesting. When Brenton moves on to Houston, I expect that Jahzara will quickly and successfully bond with another male penguin. Especially because she is so young (penguins usually form solid bonds between 2-4 years old.)-Pamela Schaller

So i know Brenton is the youngest right now, but isnt there an egg thats going to hatch soon? when will that happen?

I have observed Breton and Jahzara mating several times in the last few days. Does this indicate a bonding between them and how will that affect them both if Breton is moved to Houston in the spring?

Hi Dawn: We participate in the African Penguin Species Survival Plan. As part of this, we are sometimes recommended to send birds to other facilities, either to breed or to be exhibited. Brenton will be moving to Houston sometime later this year, along with a couple of our other penguins.-Pamela Schaller

They are all so sweet!! One question — can the underwater cam be repositioned? Currently it is pointed at a rock, so no seeing of the swimming penguins!

Hello Allan & crew,
So Brenton is going to move to Houston. Are there plans to move some of the penguins to another exhibit? Why?

Loving these introductions to the penguins, I’m thrilled to get to know them just a tiny bit.
