Hi Julie, Gaining professional experience in addition to a science degree is very helpful. I suggest volunteering or interning with exotic animals (zoos or aquariums usually offer these programs). Or try working at a wildlife rehabilitation facility; like the IBRRC or The Marine Mammal Center. Get your SCUBA certification and dive as frequently as possible. -Pamela Schaller

Hi Franny, African penguins can eat as much as a pound of food per bird per day (4 to 20 fish, depending on the type and size). They have a very high metabolism and require many calories for their variety of activities and to stay warm while swimming. -Pamela Schaller
