African penguin Conservation: Their status is changing

The African penguin has recently been studied and evaluated by both the US Fish and Wildlife and by the IUCN to determine their population health and viability. Unfortunately both groups have proposed to re-classify the African penguin as Endangered. In September 2010, the IUCN will officially classify the African penguin as Endangered on their Red List of Threatened Species. We will update you about their conservation and status throughout this summer.-Pamela Schaller
