Kianga the Coy: Yellow w/ Black Band Left Wing

Hatched on May 25th2007 at Tautphaus Park Zoo in Idaho Falls, Idaho. She arrived at the Academy later in 2007 with her sister Jahzara. Her unusual name has origins in Africa and means sunshine. As part of a contest, her name was bestowed upon her by guests of the Academy. “Kianga “ is a shy female still trying to find her place in the colony. She has no official mate but is sometimes seen flirting with “Pete” and copulating with “Robben” who is already paired with “Jahleel”. “Kianga” is by no means an aggressive bird. She rarely bites and she keeps her distance from both humans and most of the colony. She’s a favorite of mine and I always try to say hello and give her some special attention when I’m in the exhibit. - Pam Montbach
