Live Penguin Cams

Pierre the Penguin

Pierre the Penguin is doing very well and no longer needs to wear a wetsuit (if you don’t know his story, see the link on this web page or search online for “Pierre the Penguin”).  He has claimed a nest with his mate Homey.  African penguins form very strong bonds and mate for life.  Pierre and Homey live in the nest farthest away from the Wide View web cam.  They have the blue wing bands.  Pierre is banded on his right wing and Homey on her left wing.  Together they are exploring the new exhibit, resting in their new territory and spending most of their day cleaning each others feathers.

  1. Great story, loved it, and he deserved no less.
Tell Pierre my wife and I will visit him next June when we visit what we believe is one of the nicest cities in the US of A.

  3. Watching the penquin cam I can see lots of visitors to the Academy do not have the sense to turn off their flashes on their cameras. They will get a better picture without the flash and I am certain it would be less disturbing to the penquins. Do the flashes bother them?

  4. I am so excited to see Pierre is doing so well! The wetsuit was darn cute, but I’m glad to know he no longer needs it. One of these days I will be able to make it out to California to meet him in person!

Thank you continuing to share the news here. I appreciate the updates.

I learned that you are a nice Penguin. I learned about you in my first grade class today. I had no idea that there was penguins that lose feathers. Now you are the best Penguin ever.

    I love your story.

  14. We just finished reading Pierre the Penguin to our preschool class because we are doing a unit on penguins. We loved watching the webcam of the habitat. The kids were asking if Pierre was still alive and how old he is now.
Thanks for sharing your experience with us! TN

  15. Yay, glad to hear you enjoyed the book and are learning about penguins! Pierre is still alive and well and will actually be turning 29 years old next week on February 16th. He is also still with his mate Homey and they actually just laid an egg a few weeks ago :) Thanks for checking in!
