Teen Advocates for Science Communication (TASC) is now accepting applications for spring 2015. TASC works with Academy scientists to design and perform a variety of exciting new experiences for our museum visitors. Apply today! Application closes on January 4, 2015.

The Academy provides a variety of out-of-school-time programs for middle and high school-aged youth. We are committed to providing the inspiration and training for young people to become science enthusiasts and stewards of the natural world.

Careers in Science Intern Program

Since 1996, the Careers in Science Intern Program has provided San Francisco youth from communities traditionally underrepresented in STEM (Science Technology Engineering Mathematics) fields with opportunities to immerse themselves in the sciences.

Age: 9th - 12th graders
Location: California Academy of Sciences
Time: Afterschool and weekends
Duration: Multiyear, year-round participation

Digital Learning TechTeens

Digital Learning allows young people to develop their technology skills, explore science and nature, and create cool digital science stories using diverse media. 

Age: 9th - 12th graders
Location: California Academy of Sciences
Time: 4 - 6:30 pm on either Tuesdays or Thursdays
Duration: Fall or spring semester
 

 

Science Action Club

Science Action Club (SAC) engages middle school youth in authentic, hands-on science through partnerships with local afterschool providers.

Age: 6th - 8th graders
Location: Local afterschools and community organizations throughout the San Francisco Bay Area
Time: After school, varies by club

Teen Advocates for Science Communication (TASC Force) is the Academy's seasonal youth volunteer program. Participants carry out our mission to explore, explain, and sustain life by designing and presenting original programming to the public.

Age: 8th - 12th graders

Time: After school and weekends
Duration: Fall, spring, or summer season

Digital Learning Playshops
Digital Learning Playshops

Digital Learning Playshops are monthly series of youth science and technology workshops at the Academy. Each playshop focuses on a different science/technology experience—such as 3D sustainable design, aquatic robotics, and science game design—facilitated by adult or youth experts.
