The Academy provides a variety of out-of-school-time programs for middle and high school-aged youth. We are committed to providing the inspiration and training for young people to become science enthusiasts and stewards of the natural world.

Digital Learning TechTeens

Digital Learning enables young people to develop their technology skills, explore science and nature, and create cool digital science stories using diverse media. 

Grades: 9th - 12th
Location: California Academy of Sciences
Days: Tuesdays during the school year; Sundays during the summer
Duration: Fall and spring

Careers in Science Intern Program

Careers in Science is a paid, multi-year, year round science education and youth development program for underrepresented youth in San Francisco. 

Grades: 9th - 12th graders
Location: California Academy of Sciences
Time: Afterschool and weekends
Duration: Multiyear, year-round participation

Teen Advocates for Science Communication
TASC at Bay Area Science Festival

Teen Advocates for Science Communication is the Academy's youth volunteer program. Participants carry out our mission to explore, explain, and sustain life by designing and presenting youth-created educational programs to the public.

Grades: 8th - 12th graders
Location: California Academy of Sciences
Days: Saturday or Sunday during fall & spring; Tuesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, or Sundays during summer
Duration: Fall, spring, or summer semester

Teen Think Tank
Teen Think Tank Fall 2015 Cohort

Teen Think Tank (T3) is a teen advisory group that provides feedback, perspective, and youth voice to a variety of institutional initiatives, projects, and programs.

Grades: 9th - 12th graders
Location: California Academy of Sciences
Days: Thursdays, afterschool
Duration: Fall or spring semester

Science Action Club

Science Action Club (SAC) engages middle school youth in authentic, hands-on science through partnerships with local afterschool providers.

Grades: 6th - 8th graders
Location: Local afterschools and community organizations throughout the San Francisco Bay Area
Time: After school, varies by club
