This training program is designed to provide an in-depth, hands-on experience for people interested in pursuing a career in informal education. Participants will work alongside the Academy’s Education Staff to learn about the different facets of school programs in a museum.

Science Action Club is a comprehensive science and nature learning experience designed for middle school youth in out-of-school time. The full suite of resources includes easy-to-read science curriculum guides, supplies for hands-on nature investigations, custom-configured digital learning tools, and professional development training that enables afterschool providers to offer Science Action Club in their local communities.
How do conversations facilitate learning, and which strategies are most appropriate for different contexts and learning goals? In this program educators will explore research on learning, methods for engaging learners in learning conversations, and develop reflective tools to use when assessing educational activities. This program is based on the Reflecting on Practice program developed by the Lawrence Hall of Science.
The California Academy of Sciences is pleased to host professional learning programs for informal educators interested in exploring the theory and practice of education within free-choice settings. Our programs immerse educators in best practices for engaging the public with science and sustainability.
This program focuses on the process for creating programs and activities that support learners in engaging with environmentally friendly actions. Participants will engage in a rapid prototyping and iterative design process.
Reflecting on Practice
Reflecting on Practice (RoP) is a professional learning program and community developed at the Lawrence Hall of Science. The Academy partners with the Hall to deliver some of this curriculum through Professional Learning Programs.
