Sleepover FAQ

Claude glares at 2 guests through his glass

Does each person need to complete a waiver and behavioral contract?
Yes, each individual attending must complete a separate form. You can e-sign here.

What type of sleeping pad should I bring?
We recommend bringing camping pads, yoga mats, or small cots. There will be limited space and access to power outlets. You are welcome to bring an air mattress as long as it is a reasonable size (for 1 person).

Someone in our party has dietary restrictions, what are my options?
If you have questions or special dietary needs, please email our catering team. You are also welcome to bring your own food as long as it’s kept in sealed wrappers or hard containers to prevent spills and to avoid attracting non-human animals into the sleeping areas. While hot water will be available, we do not have microwaves or refrigerators available for use, so bring a cold pack if necessary. Please note: Once you store your sleep gear, it will be off-limits until it's time to set up your sleeping area. Remember to grab your dinner before you leave your gear.

What is the age limit for the event?
All participants must be at least 21 years of age and have a valid form of photo ID.

Is alcohol served at the event?
Yes, there will be cash bars at the event serving beer and wine.

My plans have changed and I can’t attend. Do you offer refunds or rainchecks?
Unfortunately we are unable to offer refunds or rainchecks on sleepover tickets. You are welcome to send someone in your place as long as they sign a waiver of liability and are 21 or older with valid ID.

What should I bring?
Do bring: Pillow, sleeping bag, toiletries (showers not available), hard-soled shoes/slippers, appropriate pajamas/sleepwear. Optional: Sleeping pads, earplugs, sleep mask, yoga mat(s).
Do not bring: Flashlights, tents, outside food/drink (unless related to a special diet), coolers, balloons, radios, weapons.

Can I stay at the Academy the next day?
After the sleepover event ends at 8 am, the museum must be vacated to prepare for public opening. Next-day admission to the museum is included with your sleepover ticket, so you are welcome to re-enter when the building opens to the public at 9:30 am.

Where can I park?
Garage parking is included with your ticket, and validation will be distributed when you leave the museum in the morning after breakfast. Please note that there is no overnight street parking in Golden Gate Park and that the garage is not operated by the Academy.

Can I arrive late or leave early?
Check-in begins at 6 pm, and you are welcome to check in anytime before 8 pm. There are no in/out privileges during the sleepover. If you leave the sleepover for any reason before its conclusion, you may re-enter when the Academy re-opens the next day.

Do I get to pick where I sleep? Can I pick ahead of time?
Sleep cards will denote a sleep area in the museum: African Hall, Giants of Land and Sea, Color of Life, or Swamp. Sleep cards are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis upon arrival. You may only obtain sleep cards for guests present. Sleep cards cannot be picked up ahead of time for latecomers or guests not physically present in the building.
