Special note: This is a two day workshop taking place on July 17 and 18 from 9:00 - 3:00.  In order to participate, you must be able to attend both days.

What exactly is scientific inquiry? Does the linear “Scientific Method” we see in textbooks accurately represent how science is done in the real world ? How might my students benefit from different kinds of inquiry experiences in the classroom? This two-day hands-on, inquiry experience can help you explore these question, and many more!

In this workshop, you will engage in your own inquiry project as an adult learner, coming up with your own testable question about one of our aquarium animals, and planning an observational study to collect and analyze data. Along the way, you will learn what the experience of scientific inquiry is really like, as compared to more “cookbook” classroom science activities.

Using your experience as an inquiry learner is a powerful way to understand the challenges and opportunities students may face in their own journey through inquiry. Thus, this workshop will NOT model ready to use classroom activities. Instead, the tools and theory that you will explore during your adult-level inquiry project will enhance your understanding of how to support authentic inquiry at any grade level. You will also refresh and inspire your own curious mind by engaging in a collaborative learning experience with your peers, and by spending time in the aquarium.

This two-day workshop experience is designed for all educators grades K-12.

July 17 and 18, 2018
9:00 am - 3:00 pm
