Join informal educators at the California Academy of Sciences as we meet weekly to build a culture of reflection and incorporate research on learning into our teaching practices!

Facilitating Conversations & Enhancing Learning

Wednesdays, January 10 - February 7, 2018
4:00pm - 7:00pm

What role does talking have in enhancing learning? How can informal educators design and facilitate conversations that help learners transfer their learning from an abstract idea into a concrete concept?

Educators will explore how talking helps people transfer knowledge into long-term storage areas of the brain. They will then build off of proven strategies for facilitating conversations and how they can be adapted to their unique teaching environments. During this series educators participate in activities to explore what learning research looks like in practice, and use videos of themselves teaching to reflect upon and brainstorm ways to strengthen their interactions with learners.

This workshop series is part of the Reflecting on Practice program.

About Reflecting on Practice workshops

Reflecting on Practice

Reflecting on Practice is comprised of nationally recognized informal educator workshops that give educators a time and a place to focus on how people learn. The goal of the program is to build a culture of reflection and help educators take advantage of structures that allow them to incorporate research on learning into their teaching practices. The curriculum organizes knowledge from the learning sciences into three topic areas for participants to explore.

Educators need to commit to all five sessions in a single series, and can do just one series, or all of them.

The cost is $50 per person per series, and scholarships are available. All sessions take place at the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco.
