Be among the first to dive deep into the Academy’s groundbreaking new aquarium exhibit Twilight Zone: Deep Reefs Revealed at this special NightLife preview.

Twilight Zone Exhibit Opening
(Coral Reef) 
6:00 - 10:00pm,
 Marvel at rarely-seen fish and invertebrates from these little-known reefs and hear from Academy scientists who travel to mysterious underwater depths to document biodiversity.

Twilight Talks
(African Hall)
7:30pm & 8:30pm
, At 7:30pm, Catch a talk by ichthyology curator Dr. Luiz Rocha, who will break down the cutting-edge technology used to travel 200-500 feet below the surface.

Then at 8:30pm, hear from renowned artist Andrew Zuckerman, known for photographic and film-based works that explore our relationship to the natural world. Zuckerman will discuss the body of work he’s created focused largely on living specimens and the process of photographing creatures from the deep with the support of the Academy, in conjunction with the newly launched multimedia magazine, bioGraphic. Made possible through the Academy’s Osher Fellows Program, his captivating images showcase the beautiful and surprising characteristics of the twilight zone’s unique marine life.

Underwater Creatures
(Project Lab)
6:00 - 10:00pm,
 View marine mammal skulls from the Academy’s collection with legendary research associate Ray “Bones” Bandar and chat with Academy scientist Kelly Markello about the interesting invertebrates beneath the surface of the sea.

Tropical Sounds
(Piazza) 
6:00 - 10:00pm,
Sway to tropical sounds worthy of an ocean expedition from DJ Mark Gorney.

FOOD & DRINK
A variety of food options are available at NightLife from 6:00-9:30 pm, including The Academy Cafe and The Academy Cafe Food Cart located in the front lobby. Enjoy a different fresh seasonal "craft on draft" cocktail at each NightLife bar area designed by our resident mixologist Shane McKnight! All bars accept cash and credit cards.

Please note: Planetarium seating is limited . Admission is available to NightLife guests on a first-come, first-served basis. No passes required. We recommend arriving 20 minutes prior to showtime.
