Relax and enjoy a meal or a delicious snack during your visit to the Academy. From the Café's wide selection of multicultural cuisine, fresh pastries, gourmet coffee tea, and fresh-squeezed juices to the Terrace's fast-casual cuisine, you'll find options to please nearly any palate.

The Terrace Cafe

Located in the Academy's West Garden, amidst sculptures by Maya Lin, the Terrace features a menu of upscale and innovative cuisine served on small plates and slates that are perfect for sharing with a group or enjoying for a light lunch or afternoon meal. There's no need for a reservation at the Terrace, and the fast-casual service will ensure that your hot, fresh meal arrives as quickly as possible.

The Terrace hosts a daily Happy Hour from 2-4pm. Buy a glass of any wine or beer and get a second for free, plus treat your taste buds with a local cheese platter for $6. Members also save 10%.

One new look, many new flavors

The Academy Café is temporarily closed for renovation, and will return in late March with a fresh design and brand new menu. Here’s a taste of what you can expect:

  • A full-service espresso bar serving a wide selection of fair-trade coffee and teas
  • San Francisco-inspired street food selections
  • Sustainable sushi rolls
  • Hand-crafted artisan sandwiches and hearty burgers
  • Pizza station
  • Local, sustainable, and fresh produce and ingredients

In the meantime, please visit The Terrace and several pop-up food stations located in the West Garden.

Meet Executive Chef John Bogarin

Chef John Bogarin grew up in Lodi, CA surrounded by small family-owned produce farms and a strong farm-to-table culture. Inspired by local produce and sustainable seafood, fresh, innovative California cuisine is his passion. He has trained in some of the finest kitchens in the world with chefs such as Thomas Keller, Ron Siegel, and Gary Danko. Experience his innovative fare everyday at The Terrace and Academy Café.

Dining Tips

Visitors are welcome to bring their own food and drink to the Academy, but we do not provide storage for lunches. Seating can be found in the East Garden, Piazza, and on indoor benches throughout the museum.

Seafood Watch

We've partnered with the Monterey Bay Aquarium's Seafood Watch program to promote environmentally responsible seafood choices and to help sustain diverse and healthy oceans.

Sustainable Ingredients

Chefs at the Academy Café and The Terrace are committed to supporting sustainable farming practices. Whenever possible, we source only local, seasonal, and organic ingredients.
