We're running three workshops for conference participants over the weekend of October 17-18, 2020.

Come visit our sessions!

Join more than 2,000 educators who share your passion for science from Friday, October 16 through Sunday, October 18. You’ll make connections, gain new ideas, and grow professionally. In addition to keynote speakers Dr. Okhee Lee and Dr. Mayim Bialik, there will be 100 live professional learning opportunities for you to choose from. All workshops will be presented live, where you will have a chance to connect with the presenters, ask questions, share ideas and network with colleagues.

The Academy's teacher PD team is facilitating three sessions:

  • Low Floor, High Ceiling: Making Science Tasks More Spacious
    Saturday, October 17 | 10:45 am - 12:15 pm PT
Low Floor, High Ceiling experiences are those with BOTH easy access points AND the potential for expansive thinking for all learners. Come explore how using this lens can help you make small changes that drastically improve your existing science curriculum.

  • Talk, Write, Draw: Tools for Meaning-Making Science
    Saturday, October 17 | 3:30 - 5 pm PT
Science notebooks give students ownership of their learning and scientific thinking. In this session, participate in a hands-on investigation and build your repertoire of strategies to support students in constructing explanations, communicating ideas, and tracking their own learning.

  • Using Science Instruction to Build a Community of Learners
    Sunday, October 18 | 12:30 - 2 pm PT
Students who feel connected to their classmates and teachers do better socially, emotionally, and academically. Learn how to use science instruction to build a community of learners, where all students know they and their ideas are valuable.
