Explore DIY demos and workshops including:

  • get crafty and fashion your very own bow-tie with GoGo Craft
  • Learn how to tie survival knots and navigate by the stars in the night sky from OCSC Sailing School
  • Learn about Modular Synths with I/O, Oakland's Modular shop.
  • "Pick" up some lock picking tips from TOOOL, The Open Organization Of Lockpickers
  • ​Get tricky with a magic skill workshop from Circus of Smiles.

Bread Making with The Perennial
(East Pavillion)
Learn directly from the pros at one of SF's top new restaurants, The Perennial, on how to fill your home with the smell of freshly baked Kernza bread during a bread and butter-making workshop. Plus, learn all about progressive agriculture through regenerative practices like aquaponics, perennial grains, and carbon farming.

Tricks of the Trade

 For the curious, learn how Academy entomologists pin insects before they become part of a scientific collection. Plus, learn how to use unusual veggies in unusual ways from Imperfect Produce and pick up skills from San Franpsycho on how to screen print.

Then head to the Piazza to pick up some new dance moves from DJ Luiza Sa-Davis.



  • Hurry! Last entry for our Rainforest dome is at 7:45 pm. Please note: drinks are not allowed inside the Rainforest exhibit.
  • Thirsty? Each bar area features a unique seasonal cocktail—there are multiple bars throughout the museum.
  • Special programs and lectures may have limited seating and admission will also be made available to visitors on a first-come, first-served basis.



  • Planetarium passes are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Early event arrival is strongly recommended due to limited capacity and high demand for passes.



  • A variety of food options are available at NightLife from 6:00-9:30 pm, including The Academy Cafe, The Terrace, and The Academy Cafe Food Cart located in the front lobby.
  • Enjoy a different fresh seasonal "craft on draft" cocktail at each NightLife bar area designed by our resident mixologist Shane McKnight! 

All bars accept cash and credit cards.
