  • How do I sign up to volunteer for SPNHC?
    • If you are interested in volunteering at the conference and are a current SPNHC member, please email SPNHC2023volunteers@calacademy.org for more information.
    • Conference volunteers will receive a discounted rate in exchange for their volunteer commitment.
  • Is there a wait list for collection tours/field trips/workshops?
    • If the tour, field trip and/or workshop of your choice is full, add your name to the waitlist. Waitlisted participants will be notified of an opening and provided with instructions for registering.
  • What airports service San Francisco? Is there convenient public transportation?
  • I'm looking for a conference roommate. Is there a list?
    • There are currently three platforms for roommate matches:
      1) Connect with potential roommates on the SPNHC Facebook page.
      2) Email the Natural History Collections listserver, NHCOLL-L. Listserv membership is open to anyone with an email account; you do not need to be a SPNHC member.
      3) Post to the SPNHC Slack channel. Be sure to request replies be made offline to avoid congestion.
  • Where do I upload my presentation or poster?
    • Instructions for uploading presentations and posters have been sent to all accepted speakers. Please check your spam folder if you have not received the notice or download a PDF here.
  • What is the cancelation policy?
    • We hope you will join us at SPNHC 2023 in person and online! However we recognize that unexpected changes occur. Although meals will have been ordered and seats reserved, we will process cancelations and issue full refunds up until the start of the conference. After May 28, 2023, the fees for any missed events will be retained by the organizers in order to support the subsidies we have offered to students and our colleagues in UN Least Developed Countries.

To help ensure attendees’ safety and enjoyment at the Society for the Preservation of Natural History Collections 2023 Annual Meeting, SPNHC and the 2023 Annual Meeting Host, the California Academy of Sciences, will comply with the health and safety standards of our host venues and all applicable government guidelines. Code of Professional Conduct

The Society for the Preservation of Natural History Collections and the SPNHC 2023 Annual Meeting Host, the California Academy of Sciences, are dedicated to providing a safe, hospitable, professional and productive environment for everyone attending its events and meetings, regardless of ethnicity, national origin, professional status, religion, disability, physical appearance, sex, gender expression, or sexual orientation. Everyone registering for the conference shall agree to abide by the SPNHC 2023 Annual Meeting Code of Conduct.

Presentation Submissions / Appearance Release / Personal Data Release agreement

The nature and mission of the Society for the Preservation of Natural History Collections include the goal of reaching as broad an audience as possible. By registering for the SPNHC 2023 Annual Meeting and/or participating in any of its associated workshops, panels, fieldtrips, social events or other activities, all SPNHC members, speakers, staff, volunteers, exhibitors, and attendees of the Meeting agree to and acknowledge the Presentation Submissions / Appearance Release / Personal Data Release agreement.
